Mom Charged With Child Neglect
Charges were issued against a Lawrenceburg mother early Tuesday after she reported domestic assaults at her home then threatened suicide, all with her young son present.
A deputy with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to consult with a City of Ethridge police officer around 4:30 a.m. As a result, contact was made with the twenty-six year old woman.
The deputy reports that the woman appeared to be under the influence of some type of intoxicant. She told him she had taken a clonidine earlier, but that she had no pills left. She initially denied having made suicidal threats.
She told the deputy she was eight weeks along in a pregnancy and was afraid to take any medication because she had not yet seen a physician. The woman was transported to Crockett Hospital for physical and psychological evaluation.
Because police officers had been called to the home sixteen times since the beginning of the year, including three times that day, regarding domestic assaults and suicide threats a warrant was issued, charging the woman with child neglect.
The deputy noted that she, “Had failed to provide a safe environment for this child by allowing this to continue at the residence…” Her four year old son was taken into the custody of the Department of Children’s Services.
